Spring is right around the corner! Sunshine, rising temperatures, and for some, Spring Cleaning. After about five or so weeks of forgetting about my finished novel, Utopia–Burning, and moving on to other writing projects, I am ready to dust off the pages and do a little Spring Cleaning of my own. It’s time to re-read the story with new eyes, and prune it into shape. Sometimes it can be tough to trim your stories, chopping word after word, sentence after sentence, down to the bare essentials, but the end result is a skin-tight story that is almost always better.
I have also been working on two new short stories that I hope to finish soon. As always, check back often for the latest info. Better still, sigh up for my Email Subscription and stay informed with ease!
And don’t forget to order your copy of the Fell Beasts Anthology today, featuring my short story The Whispers in the Cage! The Pre-order is still going on, and you can now order it in ebook format as well!

Also, I’m happy to announce that I have finished writing my latest novel, Utopia–Burning, a thrilling sci-fi adventure in which perfection is just an iterative process, and peace comes with a price! The rewrites and revisions will begin after a nice month or so break; meanwhile, I will work on my next novel/novella idea, and also write a couple short stories that have been patiently waiting for their turn. Check back often for the latest news, updates, and possible prizes!
And for those of you out there thinking about starting your own novel, but are intimidated by how long it will take and how much writing is involved, just remember to take it one page at a time! If you write just one page per day (the average page in a book has 250 words, btw), in a year or less you will have a finished book! I finished the story for Utopia–Burning in about 5-6 months, writing around 750 words per day, 4-5 days per week. Of course, I took short breaks here and there to write short stories along the way, which I found very beneficial. Short stories not only broke up the pace a little, but also replenished the creative juices when I switched back to the novel. So dust off that computer, turn off the TV and cell phone, and put fingers to keys. Your next novel is waiting!
Well, we’re a week into the new year. How many of you are still going strong on your new year’s resolutions? (One of my resolutions is to read 50 novels this year–see what I’m reading on my Reading is Fun page.) How many of you have already persuaded yourselves to pause your goals and plans, and to take a small detour “just this once?” How many just said the heck with it and didn’t bother?
For many would-be writers, eager to scratch out ink to the paper for the first time, on their way to that best-seller or the next “great american novel,” the fresh start of a new year delivers great hopes and possibilities. Writing is rewarding and wonderful, but let’s also be honest–it takes work. Start out on the right foot this year. Here is a link to Writer’s Digest that offers you 101 Websites For Writers. Take a look, read through them–they just might help keep you on track with your writing resolutions.
Happy New Year everybody! I hope 2011 is a great year for everyone. And starting off 2011 for me will be the release of the Fell Beasts anthology from Dark Quest Books later this month. Once a firm release date is scheduled, I will let you guys know. Stay tuned…
